Norton has expired the Version 2 Win 95 and are no longer providing the updates on the net. (The NT version works) Start up

R/Click Start Open Programs Startup

These programs are always run when your computer loads. Each is running using memory and resources e.g. FASTFIND Create a new directory named startsav and move unwanted icons to this directory.

Uninterruptible Power supply

This is a mains voltage power source for a computer. In simplified terms there is a battery charger, a battery and a 230volt AC converter in the box supplied. The greater the VA rating the longer the computer will run without mains power. This gives a between 5 - 10 minutes to close down the computer.

New Hardware

Record your changes. Save your old hardware profile before adding the new driver. CP-System-HW Profile-Copy 000327-(YYMMDD)

If your additions fail you can return to the old configuration. The faulty driver / device can then be removed.

4/03 If you move your computer make sure the mains power lead is fully plugged in. Loose plugs blow up computer power supplies and other hardware.

4/03 If you are having electrical problems (computer hardware) check your mains power voltage. By law it must be  230 +/- 12v (5%).

Appoint a Co-ordininator for your site to liase with internal and external computer queries. Have a deputy.

Set up a computer file to record queries and keep supplier documents.

CD Writers are the preferred backup medium. XP does not automatically write data to the CD writer.

Restore your backup to a test system to verify the operation and data.

Set up a End of Month checklist which includes the restore test.

Windows 7

We now installing computers with Windows 7 Professional and hardware Virtualization Technology. These computers are working well.

The computers can all run XP Mode.

The extra cost of the hardware and  Windows 7 Professional is paid back in ease of installation and options.

Our policy is not to install computers without Windows 7 Professional and hardware Virtualization Technology.

XP professional  computers will continue to be installed.

Vista computers with problems need to be upgraded to Windows 7 Pro.

 

Virtualization Technology. Only certain processors will run XP mode.

We suggest only to purchase computers that run Intel or AMD XP mode. Your special old programs that work under XP May  continue to work.
